The story of Las Caletas Lodge began over 30 years ago when a chance meeting in Costa Rica sparked a lifelong mission. Drawn to the raw beauty of Drake Bay, the founders established a homestead on a pristine piece of land that would eventually become a sanctuary for travelers from around the world.

Built by Hand Powered by Nature

For its first 15 years, Las Caletas operated entirely off the grid, utilizing a combination of solar and hydroelectric power to sustain the property. This deep-seated commitment to self-sufficiency continues today; while now connected to the regional grid, the lodge remains a producer of its own energy, maintaining the same independent spirit upon which it was founded.

What started as a single wooden hut with a palm-frond roof without running water or electricity, served as a rugged base for early adventurers and campers. Over three decades, the property has grown spontaneously and organically, evolving from those humble roots into the intentional, eco-conscious retreat it is today.
